OverSight
Using real-world smartphone data to better understand vision, health, and wellbeing.
What is digital phenotyping?
Digital phenotyping uses data collected from smartphones and digital devices to understand how people function in their everyday lives.
By combining behavioural, environmental, and self-reported information, digital phenotyping allows researchers to capture information about health outside of clinical settings.
This approach is particularly valuable in eye health, where traditional clinical measures may not fully reflect a person's real-world experience.
What is OverSight?
OverSight is a smartphone app developed by researchers at University College London.
The app runs on Apple iPhone devices and uses built-in smartphone sensors to collect data about daily life.
It combines two types of data:
Passive data
Collected in the background
- Physical activity
- Movement patterns
- Keyboard metrics
- Interaction with the phone
- Indicators related to mood and emotion
Active data
User input
- Health questionnaires
- Short surveys on mood and lifestyle
